Junior middle hitter Marian Barton had a record-setting year for the Reed-Custer volleyball team in 2011.
She broke the school record for the most kills in a season (201) and most kills in a career (422).
"She led the team in offense and defense and was a leader on and off the court," said head coach Denny Pommier.
"She was our go-to person in crunch time."
Barton also led the team in blocks with 88. She had a serving percentage of 91 (202/224) and 156 digs.
The Lady Comets finished the season 8-20-3. They lost to Beecher in the first round of the Coal City regional.
Barton took home many awards for her stellar season.
She was named to the first team Interstate Eight all-conference team, the I-8's all-academic team and was first team all-tournament at the Beecher Invitational.
She was also named to the Kankakee Daily Journal's all-area first team and was an honorable mention on the Joliet Herald's all-area team.
Barton is also currently the co-valedictorian of her class.
Pommier said that Barton had many memorable matches during the season but that the match against Manteno stands out.
"We pulled an upset and she had 14 kills, six blocks and 14 digs."
She will have a chance to add to her school records in her senior season.
"Barton comes to play everyday. She puts time in 12 months a year for volleyball and probably works harder in practice than in the match. She's a great teammate as she makes others around her better," said Pommier.
