ULTIMATE BEACH VOLLEYBALL INFORMATION

IS BEACH VOLLEYBALL FOR YOU?
Do you love playing volleyball? Do you love the warm weather and the beach? Do you like playing 6’s, but just wish you could hit the ball more often? Do you want to get better really fast? Yes? Well, Ultimate’s Beach Volleyball Program is the answer! Beach Volleyball is played as DOUBLES. You and a partner are the team! You get to touch every other ball, thus becoming a better passer, hitter, setter, defensive player, and strategist. The best part of beach doubles is that while improving in all those areas, you are having a blast! Coaches and parents are NOT allowed to coach during your matches—it’s just you and your partner playing your game.

PARTICIPANTS
This program is open to non-club players, to Ultimate players, and to all players registered with other clubs (must obtain a release from present club.) Boys and girls up to and including 18 years old may participate in this program. Age groups for Beach Tournaments are 14&U, 16&U, and 18&U. Twelve- year-olds may join, but they will have to compete in the 14&U division. Players may choose their own partners.

THE BEACH VOLLEYBALL COORDINATORS
Ultimate coaches will assist these coordinators at practices:

Shannon Marie Shannon recently returned to Illinois from the Washington, DC area, where she directed Clash Volleyball Club for 14 years and coached Beach Volleyball teams. Prior to that, she coached in the Chicago area at Marian Catholic H.S., Windy City VBC, and Smash VBC. As an athlete, Shannon was a Junior Olympic All-American and an All-District collegiate setter for Hillsdale College. Shannon is a beach player and the head coach for Ultimate’s instructional programs.

Kerry Shannon comes to UVC from Lynchburg College, where she was the Assistant Volleyball Coach. Previously, she coached indoor and beach teams, camps, and instructional classes for Clash Volleyball Club in Virginia. As a player, Kerry was a First-Team All-State libero and First Team All-Met. Kerry coaches for Ultimate VBC and plays Beach Volleyball.

PRACTICES
Practices will focus on techniques needed to play beach volleyball and on strategy specific to beach doubles. Significant time will be spent on working with your partner to be a successful beach team. Specific times will be determined based on age group needs after registration closes. All practices will take place at Main Park in Frankfort, located just two minutes from Hallmark SportsClub. Additional practice times and/or sites may be added if warranted by the number of participants.

BEACH TOURNAMENTS LIST
Tournaments are held on Saturdays or Sundays. You and a partner should choose three tournaments from the list below. If you would like to play in additional tournaments, a fee of $25 per player for each additional tournament will be required. Please have your tournament choices ready for our Beach Tournament Registration Night on Friday, June 3, 2011.

*USA Volleyball is hosting the USA Beach Championships in Chicago! Teams may play in the National Division without qualifying. We encourage everyone to sign up for this historic event.

**If you are not playing in a USAV indoor tournament on June 18, you might want to play in the USA Beach National Qualifier on Chicago's lakefront. This is a qualifier for the Open Division (highest level) of the July 23 Beach National Championships to be held in Chicago. Ultimate Beach will not be underway on June 18, but we'd be happy to help you get registered for this. Call Coach Shannon at 571-921-6333 for information or talk to the coaches at the tournament registration night on June 3.

INTRA-CLUB TOURNAMENTS
Intra-club mini-tournaments will also be held on weekdays at local sites; dates TBA. (Mini-tournaments do NOT count as one of your three Beach Tournaments.) All Ultimate Beach doubles teams may participate in these tournaments at no additional fee.
